If you want to know your destiny, you must begin with God. We were born for his purpose; yet, many of us stay puzzled about the destiny God has planned for us. That’s because we typically begin at the wrong starting point—ourselves. We ask self-centered questions like, ‘What do I want to be?’ ‘What should I do with my life?’ ‘What are my goals, my ambitions, my dreams for my future?’ But focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose. In her book, Driven By Destiny, Dr. LaVerne Adams provides a very practical plan for not only determining what your God-given destiny is, but also provides a way to help move you forward in fulfilling your destiny. Part of your destiny is to become like Jesus, but you cannot reproduce the character of Jesus on your own strength. This book will help you understand how you must cooperate with the Holy Spirit’s work of developing the character of Christ in you. It is a strong reminder that, although your own effort has nothing to do with your salvation, it has much to do with your spiritual growth. We are to make every effort in our growth toward becoming like Jesus. We don’t just sit around and wait for it to happen, but as LaVerne methodically shows, we are to very deliberately let go of old ways of acting; we are to actively work with the Holy Spirit in changing the way we think; and we are to consistently “put on” the character of Christ by developing new, godly habits.

Destiny is much bigger than we can fully comprehend and yet not beyond our grasp. Destiny is both mysterious and practical, especially when you begin to understand it and apply certain life principles and life truths based on the intention(s) of the One who destined you. The God who made the world and everything in it transcends the boundaries of human comprehension, and yet makes Himself known in the simplicity of faith to any who will humble themselves to acknowledge Him in all their ways. And though God is not far from any one of us, He determined your appointed times and seasons in life, and the boundaries of your existence, and His purpose in that was that you might seek Him, and even feel about blindly and uncertainly for Him.
